How to create backups in MedAdvisor for Pharmacy software
Medadvisor for Pharmacy stores some important information in a database file on your pharmacy's MAIN computer. This includes data such as SMS patients, contacts and Doctors script request information.
Medadvisor for Pharmacy has a helpful feature built in to make a weekly backup that you can utilise to keep your MedAdvisor data safe. This is set to back up the database, by default, to the same folder that Medadvisor for Pharmacy is installed in. We highly recommend you change this location to another computer or network storage drive.
Please follow these steps:
- Open MedAdvisor for Pharmacy on your MAIN computer. This is the computer that will have [Main] in the title bar of the program (see below screenshot)

- In the task bar at the bottom of your computer, right-click the MedAdvisor for Pharmacy icon and select Settings

- Here you can choose a directory for these backups to be created.

- A good directory to choose would be a shared folder on another computer, for example your dispense server or network drive
- When choosing a new directory, be sure you have the appropriate permissions to create a file inside of that directory. A quick way of testing this is to try and create a new document in the directory.
- You can use a network path or shared drive for backups
-
- If you have any trouble with this, your store's IT team would be well placed to assist you. Otherwise, feel free to contact our support team
- Medadvisor for Pharmacy will create backups every morning at 12am, unless if you turn your computers off at night, in which case the backup will be created when you turn your computers back on and open Medadvisor for Pharmacy. The directory you have chosen must be available at this time for backups to be created successfully.
- It is a good idea to check back on your backup folder after configuring it to ensure backups are being created successfully, you should see sqlite files being created with the day of the week in the file name.

The file names may look similar to this, if you just changed the backup path you may only see one or even no files yet, don't panic, give it another night and more backup files will be created throughout the week
At this point if you're seeing backup files being created, you're done! If you chose a folder on another PC from your Main terminal, your data will now be safe from hardware fault on your Main.
